Inscription: Recto: beginning upper left continuing for full page, brown ink: most practically useful we could obtain / (the radii of the curve surfaces being ∴ about / 1:2) The focal length of twelve inches gives / a picture such as the eye sees it in nature / & the increased diameter of the lens gives / light enough for very rapid operation - / Of course Sir John Herschell's advice should not / be rejected of perfect achromativity in the / lens used. / = For Photographic purposes the objects [last letter of word crossed out] in / using the above cameras is to get the best [continued on next page]; lower right, graphite: 9.
