Provenance
probably Mrs. Esdaile; acquired from her by B.T. Batsford (London); purchased there by Sir Robert Witt, London (1872-1952), before November 1926 (along with several others by Thornhill, 12 now in the collection); Witt Bequest 1952 This Witt card was renumbered from 2225, which is one of the series of 12 drawings listed above all by Thornhill and all purchased from Batsford, so I suspect this drawing was as well.
