discovered in a Victorian scrapbook; Brook Street Galleries (London), 31 October - 19 November 1938, no. 17; purchased there by Sir Robert Witt, London (1872-1952) (£9.45); Witt Bequest 1952 The Brook Street catalogue says all of the drawings in the show were ‘discovered in an old scrap-book of Victorian days’ but doesn’t say when, where or by whom.
