This unidentified composition, squared for transfer onto another surface, is a fine example of a working drawing. Tintoretto's figure compositions, which are often based on small wax models, are predominantly studies in motion. His highly individual style is apparent in the twisting elongated body, its contours and musculature defined by rippling lines and curved black chalk marks. The dramatic contrast between light and dark shows the influence of Michelangelo's work.
