Notes

From Susan Owens Report, 2012: According to Gibson-Wood 1994, Mrs Catherine Knapp was a close female companion of Richardson in the 1730s (p. 211). There is a double portrait of Mr and Mrs Knapp attributed to Richardson at the Morgan (2004.49:15, no image online). The drawing is now secured at all sides to the mount so cannot be turned and the verso cannot be seen.
