Label Text

Galofre was a supporter of Spanish 'costumbrismo', an art form in which popular subjects were represented with detailed realism. His unpublished book 'España' aimed at an artistic documentary of his country. This swift but remarkably nuanced brush sketch of a group of figures with a donkey in a mountainous landscape was probably preparatory for the project.
