Hayman Invt _______ Preceptor / The Youth who Led by Wisdom's guiding hand, / seeks Virtue's Temple + her Law reveres: / He he [sic] alone in Honour's Dome shall stand / Crown'd with rewards + raisd above his Peers: / Recording Annals shal [sic] preserve his Name, / And give his Virtues to Immortal Fame.". Verso: upper centre, graphite: "Collection JP Heseltine"; lower centre, brown ink, Heseltine’s hand: "From a folio volume containing sketches by James Barry, R. Cooper, / + R Wilson, stated to have belonged to Barry / Purchased of Sewening, dealer, 29. Duke Street, Piccadilly. April 3. 1884 / J.P.". Support (historic), Recto: lower left corner, graphite, Witt acc. no.: "4558".
