Label Text

A member of Raphael's workshop, Giovanni da Udine may well have learned the techniques of still-life and animal painting from a Netherlandish colleague. He collaborated with Raphael on the ceiling frescoes in the Vatican loggia which were rich in animal imagery. This extraordinarily modern-looking image of a ram and buffalo, clearly observed from life, contrasts with Udine's more fanciful inventions.
