Watermark: Watermark: centre: crowned shield with a bend containing a large bear (2.9 cm between chain lines; no exact match in Piccard but several similar motifs, dating 1630s-1650s, Germany).

Collector's mark: Verso: lower left corner, stamped in black ink: Sir Robert Witt (L.2228b).

Inscription: Recto: lower left corner, grey ink, signed by the artist but now abraded: "i. van Goyen". Verso: lower right, graphite, Colnaghi number: "A18102"; lower right corner, graphite: "10".
