Inscriptions

Watermark: Watermarks: lower centre: appears to be three marks on top of each other, presumably one in the drawing sheet (possibly a Strasburg bend above “L V G”) above a support composed of two sheets of laid paper: top sheet has some text and possibly a coat of arms; bottom layer has letter “W” (similar to that in Heawood 3114 – no notes, but presumably a Whatman mark).

Collector's mark: Mount (historic), Recto: lower left corner, stamped in black: Sir Robert Witt (L.2228b).

Inscription: Recto: lower left of centre (above door within drawing), black ink: "THE"; lower left edge, black ink, signed: "T. Rowlandson.". Mount (historic), Recto: upper centre edge, graphite: "soti [?]"; right lower edge, graphite: "30"; lower right edge, graphite, hard to read: "[illegible word] Rowlandson [illegible date]". Mount (historic), Verso: upper centre, graphite, underlined: "Ho 93"; upper centre, black crayon, large: "376 BT"; left of centre, upside down, graphite, scribbled over: "12 1/2 x 1/1 / 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 / 18 x 16 ½"; centre, graphite: "No 18 / Designs originale / Rowlandson"; lower left, graphite, scribbled over: "2 1/2 in cut mount / No 7 Luik plain edge / 018 Paper"; lower right, graphite: "No 10 H / W 5399"; lower right, graphite, Colnaghi number: "A.18183."; lower right, graphite: "D219 450".
