Watermark: Watermark: possibly at centre, but is obscured by a repair made to the vertical fold down the centre, which is sandwiched between the drawing and the backing sheet.

Inscription: Recto: lower right corner, brown ink, artist's monogram: "JDH". Verso (backing sheet), upper left and entire right half of sheet taken up with brown ink letter in German, cut off at top, the right half covered by residue from a former support, seems to mention "Nabburg" and is dated at lower right "Nbris anno / 1691"; left lower edge, graphite: "Jean de Hoey / 1545-1615 / peintre d'Henri IV / u. Nagler. II. 432 / Wurzbach. I. 698 ."; lower left corner, blue crayon: "D. Hopfer". Recto of the backing sheet (only visible from the recto of the drawing with transmitted light), lower right, brown ink: inscription in Dutch.
