Inscriptions

Watermark: Watermarks: Recto, left of centre: four-lobed shape containing lines and a circle (see sketch in file, description too vague to search in Briquet). Mount (historic), Recto: left centre edge: crowned shield containing fleur-de-lis.

Inscription: Mount (historic), Recto: lower left edge, graphite: “Coll Ch. / Rogers / 1711-1784 / No 624 //”; lower left edge, graphite: “Coll. Marque”; right lower edge, graphite, the first two lines crossed out – is a transcription of the same inscription below, which has been cut off and thus no longer shows all the same information (names of collectors and Lugt numbers, but the first two are incorrect): “Coll. W. Bates / No. 2605 / Coll TL. Banks / No. 1423 / Coll. A. Poynter / No. 161 //”. Mount (historic), Verso: right centre, graphite: “Paul Veronese”.

Collector's mark: Recto: lower left corner, pen and brown ink: Charles Rogers (L.624). Mount (historic), Recto: lower left, stamped in black ink: Sir Robert Witt (L.2228b); lower right, stamped in black ink: William Bateson (L.2604a); lower right, stamped in black ink: Thomas Banks (L.2423).
