Inscription: Recto: lower right corner, brown ink, signed by the artist: “CW Bampfylde delin. et inv.” On a separate strip of paper mounted above the drawing, brown ink, hand of former owner James Harris: “This Beautiful Drawing was given to me James Harris by it's [sic] Inventor and author / M. Copplestone Warre Bampfylde of Hestorcomb near Taunton in August 1776. Before I received / this valuable Present, Mr. Bampfylde had painted after it a fine Picture, which he gave to Mr. Hoare, and which is now at Stourhead.".
