Walker Galleries (London); purchased there by Sir Robert Witt, London (1872-1952), L.2228b (verso, lower left), November 1949; Witt Bequest 1952 The artist died suddenly in Italy and left about 120 drawings by himself and others. Nothing is known of the subsequent sale, but over 80 later belonged to Thomas Blofeld (1753-1817) of Hoveton House, near Norwich. Blofeld sold these at Hodgson & Co, 1909. If this drawings was sold at this sale, it is not identifiable, but could be among the lots of Italian landscapes (lots 609-616) sold on the second day.
