Watermark: Watermark: Verso, centre: large fleur-de-lis above “J. KOOL” (per Churchill, active 1728-1800; however, Peter Bower says Jan Kool did not start making paper until 1774).

Collector's mark: Verso: lower left corner, stamped in black ink: Sir Robert Witt (L.2228b).

Inscription: Recto: within the drawing, lower centre, grey-brown ink: a scale, at lower left numbered “1” to “10”, with a larger scale running the full width of the page below numbered “1” to “4”. Verso: lower left, graphite, circled in red chalk: “60”; left lower edge, graphite, added on separate strip of paper, Witt number: “4251”; lower right corner, graphite: “#12”.
