Verso: entire sheet, black ink, cut off at edges: "[...]mden on Monday + / delivered Len over to Tom / Platt - he did not give / me a receipt for her: but / I am quite sure about it. / How very sad it / is to leave the country + / its pleasant habitants"; left centre edge, graphite: "4A"; lower right of centre edge, encircled: "C 2854". Mount (removed, cut down and now in file): graphite: "14 / Caldecott (Randolph) 1846-1886 / Two figures love making seated on A / Tombstone bearing the Epitaph / here lies the earthly bits of / Randolph Caldecott / spirited Pen drawing. app/H/10/- / #14".
