Inscription: Recto: lower right, grey wash, signed: "W. Payne". Verso: centre, grey-brown ink: "Near Swansea / W. Payne [word completely abraded]". Support (removed, but hinged onto same mount as drawing), Recto: lower right, graphite: an arrow pointing in towards where the signature would be on the drawing when mounted. Mount (removed, see photo), Recto: lower right, graphite:, "William Payne / 1755/60 - p 1830 / signed W. Payne / Near Swansea".
Collector's mark: Verso: lower left corner, stamped in black: Sir Robert Witt (L.2228b).
