Watermark: Watermark: Recto, along right edge, only lower half of letters: "CURTEIS & SONS" (dated 1763 by Churchill).

Inscription: Verso: upper left corner, graphite: "16a"; lower 2/3 of page, brown ink, Dupont Gainsborough's hand: "I recd a Note last Night from Capt. Travers mention / his intention of being with me tomorrow, if therefore / you should not yet have fixed with Capt Brown & / Capt Bromfield a time for their sitting. I should be much / obliged if you would give them the choices of Saturday / Monday & Tuesday, [next two lines crossed out: 'for either or both... / I shall be glad to see them] if you have / appointer either of these gentlemen to sit tomorrow, I / will [word crossed out] acquit Capt Travers to come some future / day. Capt. Panton is to be with me to day, and I / shall endeavour to have him again Wednesday next".
