Watermark: Watermark: centre: a heart surrounded by wings or flames, surmounted by a small crown, all above “C [or “G”] H” (not found in Briquet, Heawood or Piccard).
Inscription: Recto: within the drawing, lower left, signed with the artist’s initials: “JS”. Support (historic), Recto: on separate strip of paper adhered to lower centre, graphite, unclear: “J[...] friedrich Euhr Printz Zu Brandenburg”; on another separate strip of paper adhered to lower centre, brown ink: “Joachim a Sandrart fecit. in 83 Jahr seines Alters.” and on the verso of that strip, now hidden by the support, is written in brown ink “N 273” and in graphite “Sandrart”; lower left corner, graphite, erroneous Witt number: “3014”; Support (historic), Verso: lower right, graphite: “h”; lower right corner, graphite: “#1”.
Collector's mark: Verso: lower left corner, stamped in black ink: Sir Robert Witt (L.2228b).
Label: Removed but still mounted with the drawing, printed in blue ink and filled in with grey ink: coat of arms above “CITY OF MANCHESTER / ART GALLERY / 79 //”.
