Watermark: Watermark: left centre: small fleur-de-lis (per Peter Bower, simple marks of this type of fleur-de-lis were very common from the early 16th century onwards). Verso (backing sheet): left centre: shield with crossed 'X's and letters "D C B" (close to Heawood 3268 - England circa 1769 - but ours is a cm wider. Per Peter Bower, the D&C Blauw partnership, one of the biggest producers in Holland, began in 1750 and lasted into the 1820s).
Inscription: Verso (backing sheet): centre, graphite: "From Gen e[superscript] Momper's Colln. / Johnson Collection //"; lower left corner, brown ink: "124 / P j //"; lower right, graphite: "J. Mompert b 1580".
Collector's mark: Verso (backing sheet): stamp glued to upper left corner, printed in black ink: Richard Johnson (L.2216); lower left edge, stamped in black ink: Sir Robert Witt (L.2228b).
