Watermark: Watermark: centre: fleur-de-lis above Strasburg bend above curlicue and cursive "W" (similar though not exact match to Heawood 104 and 112 - Paris 1737 and London 1698).

Duke's hand: "D1039/ J.B Melchair 1731-1812 / LGD"; brush and grey wash with "Thursday" in graphite, dated by the artist: "Conway Castle Thursday Sept. 15-1791-10/"; lower right corner, graphite, Colnaghi number: "A11376".

Collector's mark: Verso: lower left corner, stamped in black ink: Sir Robert Witt (L.2228b).
