Fuseli’s subject matter was mainly derived from history, romance and literature, and he contributed nine subjects to the engraver Boydell’s Shakespeare Gallery. This drawing, a study for an oil painting, shows Titania, Queen of the Fairies in 'A Midsummer Night’s Dream'.
