graphite, pen and brown ink (no brown wash, just smudging) on wove paper with graphite framing lines on three edges (trimmed away on the right), laid down, and that in turn laid down on a mount (Witt's? L.2228b is on the verso hidden now that it is laid down on the mount but evident in raking light), which has been heavily damaged around the edges from the removal of a former overmount
