Watermark: Watermark: Verso, right centre: coat of arms - a crowned oval flanked by griffins containing a cross, above a circle containing letters "LS [?]" above a circle containing "2 [?]". Heawood type 727-776 but no exact match).
Inscription: Recto: possibly at centre of drawing along vertical fold, graphite: “Im Hmall [?]”; lower centre edge, graphite: “in Flanders.” and “a market Tent in Camps.”; lower right edge, pen and brown ink (seemingly inked over an earlier inscription of the same text), signed and dated by the artist: “Mar Laroon F1707”. Verso: upper right edge, graphite, artist’s hand: “Done in Flanders, in the year 1707. / the year I went into the Army. Mar: Laroon [last two words scratched out in graphite and now illegible].”.
Collector's mark: Verso: lower left corner, stamped in black ink: Sir Robert Witt (L.2228b).
