Watermark: Watermark: lower centre: circle containing bird facing forward? standing on a three-lobed hillock (no match in Briquet or Heawood).
Inscription: Recto: upper centre edge, brown ink: “in Roma in S.to Augustino”; right upper edge, brown ink: “1581 / stem+ [underline] / 14 //”; lower left, brown ink, last three words added in grey ink: “o di / nel / 1581 da me’ / ritratto. //”. Verso: lower left corner, graphite: “453”; lower right, graphite: “Sansovino Domi del Monte / Bildhauer um 1581 //”. Mount (removed, cut down and now in file): graphite, William Bradford’s hand: : “Inscr. on reverse “Sansovino Domi del Monte, / Bildhauer um 1581. / Probably drawings after Sansovino statues / by Sansovino in S.’Agostino. / Witt 2535 WB 1980 //”.
