Inscriptions
Watermark: Watermark: centre: coat of arms - an oval containing a cross flanked by griffins stacked on top of two circles. Unable to decipher symbols inside the two circles - the middle possibly contains "GM". Thus unable to find an exact match, is of a type with Heawood 724-776 - found on papers from Spain, Portugal, Antwerp and England dated 1665-1766.
Collector's mark: Mount (removed, in box of mounts from P&D), Recto: lower left, stamped in black ink: Sir Robert Witt (L.2228b).
Inscription: Recto: upper left edge, brown ink, hand of double-numbering collector: “253”; lower centre (within drawing), on step, brown ink: “Giac.o Cavedone”; lower right corner, brown ink, hand of double-numbering collector: “253. duecento cinquetre”. Mount (removed, in box of mounts from P&D), Recto: lower right, brown ink, second line crossed through in brown ink: “Cavedone James, born 1580 died 1660 / Carlo Cignagni.”. Mount (removed, in box of mounts from P&D): Verso: centre, brown ink: “Giacomo Cavedone”; lower right, brown ink, maybe a collector’s mark (not in Lugt)?: “AG”.
