Inscription: Mount (historic), Verso: upper left, graphite: "2668/No 52"; upper centre, brown ink: "Pietro Berretini - called: Pietro da Cortona - painted History + Landscape / born at Cortona in Tuscany 1596 - died - 1669.- / "He went young to Rome and applied himself diligently to study the Antiques, the works of Raphael, / Buonaroti & Polidoro, by which he so improved his taste & his hand that he distinguished himself in a degree / superior to any of the artists of his time." Pilkington.
