Inscriptions

Watermark: upper centre: large circle containing a cross above "IHS" above a heart with rays; Countermark: lower centre: lozenge containing "P ♥ G" (matches Heawood 2980 - Paris, 1743? - the question mark is Heawood's). According to Peter Bower, this paper was made by Pierre Gourbeyre at Petit Vimal, Ambert, in the Auvergne. Examples are found in use in 1658 and 1660 (see Gaudriault 1995, pp. 217, 306).

Inscription: Recto: lower right edge, graphite, faded: "Hondekoeter". Verso (backing sheet): lower right, graphite: "#1".

Collector's mark: Verso (backing sheet): lower left corner, stamped in black ink: Sir Robert Witt (L.2228b).
