Inscriptions

Watermark: Recto, right centre: crowned shield with straight edges containing a fleur-de-lis (of a similar type to Heawood 1718 and 1719, though many differences - dated 1676 and 1699).

Collector's mark: Recto: lower right corner, stamped in black ink: Earl of Warwick (L.2600). Verso: lower left corner, stamped in black ink: Sir Charles Greville (L.549); lower right corner, stamped in black ink: Sir Robert Witt (L.2228b).

Inscription: Recto: within the drawing, lower right on plinth, brown ink, signed and dated by the artist: "P. V. Slingeland. 1680". Verso: all along right edge, brown ink: a long text in Dutch, only part of first word of each line visible before cut off at the right edge; clearly visible, however, is the date "1672". Mount (removed, but still mounted with the drawing), Recto: lower left corner, graphite: "8"; lower left edge, graphite, erased and illegible: "M[...]"; lower right, graphite, erased and difficult to read: "P. Van Sling[...] x Signed [...] / Paper of G[...] 1691"; right lower edge, graphite: "Coll / Greville". Mount (removed, but still mounted with the drawing), Verso: upper left corner, graphite, difficult to read: "Pur 1871 / [...]"; lower right, graphite: "B.M. / Spec".
