Inscriptions

Watermark: Watermarks: Recto: right centre edge, fragment: top of a crowned shield containing a horn. Support (historic), Verso: centre: two circular shields, possibly Vryheyt? Doesn’t seem thick enough to be two sheets of paper but seems to be two separate watermarks. Secondary support (removed but still mounted with the drawing): centre: Strasburg lily containing a “P” above a “4” above an inverse “v” above monogram “VDL” (matches – though larger than – Heawood 1848 – London 1775).

Inscription: Support (historic), Recto: lower left corner, graphite: “£1.11.6”; lower right edge, graphite: “Chevr + Vanderwert”. Secondary support (removed but still mounted with the drawing), Recto: upper right corner, graphite: “37”; lower centre, brown ink: “Vanderwert.”. Secondary support (removed but still mounted with the drawing), Verso: upper right, graphite, unclear: “Roberts […]est x Worlidge 1/9/- / 2ct [?] //”; right of centre, graphite: “uc/”.

Collector's mark: Verso (no longer visible, but shows through): lower left corner, stamped in black ink: Sir Robert Witt (L.2228b). Support (historic), Verso: lower left corner, stamped in black ink: Sir Robert Witt (L.2228b).
