B. 1580. D.1660. / One of his best performances is in the Church of the Misericords in Bologna, / in which he represents Petronius and another Saint on their knees, in the / lower part of the picture and the Virgin and Child in the Clouds attended / by Angels. The Virgin is in a grand taste of design and the composition is / heiratic[?], the colouring in sepia wash resembles Titian, and the other / p[…] nobly executed in that style which is particularly [….] / […] See i[…]ton //”. Mount (removed, cut down, in curatorial file), Recto: grey ink: “Giacomo Cavedone.”; dark brown ink: “Petronius on his knees; the Virgin & Child in the Clouds attended by Angels / This Picture is in the church of the Mendicants at Bologna & one of his best, & after the Manner of Caravaggio”; black ink: “18”.
