This dynamically conceived coronation of the Virgin by God the Father, the victorious Christ, and the Holy Spirit shows the foreshortened figures from below, suggesting the study was preparatory for a vault or ceiling painting. The energetic use of the pen for emphatically linear, expressive works is characteristic of autograph drawings by José Ximénez Donoso, active at the court of Madrid after studying in Rome.
