Label Text

As well as frequently depicting his son in drawings, Richardson also described him in verse. In one poem, about a journey they made together from Whitchurch, he expresses the delight he felt in Jonathan Junior’s company:

My son, my other self, accompany’d,
With him I joy to sit, to walk, to ride,
Whether at home, or on the various way,
He rules, intending only to obey,
Delights, instructs me how to think and see,
Whilst he alike is pleas’d and taught by me.
