Label Text

This powerful drawing depicting a warrior standing in a classical contrapposto pose is rich in tonal contrast. It shows in particular Guercino’s capacity to render different textures: fluidly brushed washes convey the smooth surface of the armour, erratic lines describe the leather strips attached to the cuirass, whilst curly pen lines suggest the man’s hair and bristly moustache.
