This ceiling design has been associated with the contribution of the British sculptor, painter, and designer, Alfred Stevens, to Melchet Court in Hampshire (c. 1868). His experience as a sculptor is revealed through the skilful use of linear perspective and measured proportions, as they serve to create an illusion of depth while convincingly conveying the volume and materiality of the coffers.
