Watermark: Watermark: none visible in the drawing sheet, though mount too thick to discern clearly. Mount (historic), Verso: upper centre: "PHIPPS & SON / 1809". The mount was formed from two pieces of laid paper laid atop one another, and so just below the above watermark is a faint impression of the same mark, upside down, which is showing through from the underlying sheet of laid paper used for the mount.

Collector's mark: Mount (historic), Verso: lower right corner, stamped in black: Sir Robert Witt (L.2228b).

Inscription: Mount (historic), Recto: lower right corner, graphite: "38". Mount (removed, see photo), Recto: lower right, graphite: "Thomas Monro / 1759-1833 / Coll. Earl of Essex".
