Inscription: lower left, brown ink, ‘ADM’ in monogram: TvT ADM. 24; lower margin, brown ink: Ulÿsse estant aux enfers s’entretient avec hercule, et voit quantité de choses qui l’esmeuvent à pitié; par où se / demonstre, que c’est dans les lieux d’horreur et de peine, où les grands courages sont le plus touchez de la misere d’autruy. [Ulysses, in Hades, converses with Hercules and sees many things which move him to pity. By this it is shown that it is in places of horror and punishment, where great courage is the most affected by the misery of others.]
