Watermark: centre: foolscap with five points (the points end not in circles but in deformed shapes, teardrop-shaped and not regular; no match found in Heawood or Churchill). Historic support, verso, left centre: crowned shield with straight edges, containing fleur-de-lis.

Inscription: Recto: lower left, brown ink, ‘AvD’ in monogram: TvT.AvD. 48; lower margin, brown ink: Ulÿsse estant au lict avec penelope, luÿ fait un ample recit de ses aventures; et son propre example luÿ donne / à connaitre, qu’il y a du plaisir à s’entretenir de la tempeste quand on se void [sic] dans le calme. [Ulysses, in bed with Penelope, gives her a full account of his adventures. And by his own example gives her to understand, that there is pleasure to be had in talking about the tempest when one knows one is in the calm.]
