Inscription: Recto: lower left, black ink, 'AvD' in monogram: TvT.4 AvD; lower margin, black ink: Ulysse pille la ville des cicioniens et par la sanglante défaite de plusieurs de ses compagnons, qui d[emeurent] / sur la place, il espreuve a son dommage, qu’il est dangereux d’attaquer autrüÿ chez soÿ, ou du moins de joüÿr d’une ent[iere / victoire] en combattant, et ne sentir pas qu’hercule ne peut rien contre deux, et qu’il faut que la moindre force c[ede à la] / plus grande [Ulysses pillages the town of the Cicones, and as the result of the bloody defeat of several of his companions, who remain on the spot, he learns to his cost that it is dangerous to attack others in their own territory, or at least to enjoy a complete victory in combat and to not understand, that [even] Hercules can do nothing against two, and that the smallest force must cede place to the greater]
