Inscription: Recto: lower right, brown ink, ‘AvD’ in monogram: AvD TvT 30; lower margin, brown ink: Des pheaciennes accompagnent Ulÿsse en son pays, où elles le posent doucement, tout endormy qu’ / il estoit. ces courtoises dames sont le vray symbole des vertus; qui apres la mort (que les plus contemplatifs ont comparés / au sommeil) nous ravissent insensiblement au Ciel, d’où nous tirons nostre origine. [The Phaeacians accompany Ulysses to his country, where they gently leave him fast asleep. These courteous ladies are the true symbol of the Virtues; who after death (which the most thoughtful compare to sleep) carry us off unconscious to Heaven, where we find our origin.]
