Provenance
probably acquired directly from the artist by Goupil Gallery (London); probably purchased there by Samuel Courtauld, London (1876-1947), 1929; Samuel Courtauld Gift 1935 According to Cooper 1954, this drawing was with the Goupil Gallery, and was purchased by Courtauld in 1929, though he couldn't confirm Courtauld bought it at Goupil, as the drawing itself is dated 1929 it seems likely this is the provenance. However we don't know Cooper's evidence either that this drawing was with Goupil (no exhibitions of Dobson were held in 1929), nor how he knew that Courtauld made the purchase in 1929. He did know Courtauld personally so it could have been verbal information.
