Inscriptions
Watermark: lower centre: circle containing an anchor, topped by a five-pointed star (similar to Briquet 472-494, all Italian or Austrian, but no exact match there or in Piccard as the star is quite far above the circle rather than sitting on it).
Inscription: Recto: lower right corner, brown ink: “G. Tintoretto” (same hand as on D.1952.RW.673 and 674).
Collector's mark: Recto: lower right corner, stamped in black ink: Sir Joshua Reynolds (L.2364).
Label: Wooden backing (removed and now missing, recorded in file): label of Savile Gallery, 7 Stratford Place, London, with title “The Back of a Man” and Jacopo Rubusti (Il Tintoretto), and a printed label “no. 1052”.
