The work, made during his passionate affair with his model, Marie-Thérèse Walter, reveals Picasso’s obsession with the intellectual and sexual aspects of an artist’s creative process. The mythical figure of the Minotaur represents lust, whilst the precise draughtsmanship might be seen as indicating cool rationality.
