The arrangement of the bodies and the close grouping of the heads give the gathering a sense of drama and a conspiratorial air. It was this humorous and incisive quality that the author Virginia Woolf admired most about the painting when she praised it in a letter to her sister:  \"I think you are a most remarkable painter.  But I maintain you are into the bargain, a satirist, a conveyer of impressions about human life: a short story writer of great wit and able to bring off a situation in a way that rouses my envy.\" The painting retains its original frame, painted by Bell."]}},{"label":{"none":["License"]},"value":{"none":["<a href=\"https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-nc\/4.0\/\">BY-NC 4.0 Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0<\/a>"]}}],"items":[{"id":"https:\/\/gallerycollections.courtauld.ac.uk\/api\/iiif\/O2750\/canvas\/1","type":"Canvas","label":{"none":["P.1935.RF.24_c"]},"height":7328,"width":6811,"format":"image\/jpeg","items":[{"id":"https:\/\/gallerycollections.courtauld.ac.uk\/api\/iiif\/O2750\/canvas\/1\/page","type":"AnnotationPage","items":[{"id":"https:\/\/gallerycollections.courtauld.ac.uk\/api\/iiif\/O2750\/canvas\/1\/page\/annotation","type":"Annotation","motivation":"painting","target":"https:\/\/gallerycollections.courtauld.ac.uk\/api\/iiif\/O2750\/canvas\/1","body":{"id":"https:\/\/gallerycollections.courtauld.ac.uk\/iiif\/3\/119426\/full\/max\/0\/default.jpg","type":"Image","format":"image\/jpeg","height":7328,"width":6811}}]}]}]}
