The scenes, drawn from the Old Testament, have a similar composition - a seated male ruler speaking to a female visitor. Both were modelled on decorations by the Renaissance painter Paolo Veronese, whose work Rubens saw in Venice. From these sketches, Rubens’s assistants created the final paintings, which were part of a series of 39 large canvasses for the Church of Saint Ignatius of Loyola in Antwerp. Completed in 1621, the paintings were destroyed by fire a century later when lightning struck the church.<br>"]}},{"label":{"none":["License"]},"value":{"none":["<a href=\"https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-nc\/4.0\/\">BY-NC 4.0 Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0<\/a>"]}}],"items":[{"id":"https:\/\/gallerycollections.courtauld.ac.uk\/api\/iiif\/O2255\/canvas\/1","type":"Canvas","label":{"none":["P.1978.PG.367_c"]},"height":6934,"width":6563,"format":"image\/jpeg","items":[{"id":"https:\/\/gallerycollections.courtauld.ac.uk\/api\/iiif\/O2255\/canvas\/1\/page","type":"AnnotationPage","items":[{"id":"https:\/\/gallerycollections.courtauld.ac.uk\/api\/iiif\/O2255\/canvas\/1\/page\/annotation","type":"Annotation","motivation":"painting","target":"https:\/\/gallerycollections.courtauld.ac.uk\/api\/iiif\/O2255\/canvas\/1","body":{"id":"https:\/\/gallerycollections.courtauld.ac.uk\/iiif\/3\/80819\/full\/max\/0\/default.jpg","type":"Image","format":"image\/jpeg","height":6934,"width":6563}}]}]}]}
